NDLEA Cripples Drugs Network, Seizes 1750.3kg, Arrests 14 Suspects In Kano

The Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), on Wednesday said it seized 1750.3Kg illicit substances culminating in the arrest of 14 suspects in Kano state over the last one week.

A statement by Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, ASN II, Ag. Public Relations Officer, NDLEA Kano State Command explained that the seizure was dividend of the ogoing battle against Illicit substances.

Muhammad Maigatari revealed that just days after the arrest of a massive 1,553.1kg of cannabis sativa on the 19th of July, 2023, the agency apprehended an additional 106kg of illicit substances.

He said “this accomplishment underscores Commander Abubakar Idris Ahmad’s commitment to safeguarding our society from the devastating effects of drug abuse.

The Acting Public Relations Officer, NDLEA stated that the arrest of Abubakar Yunusa, 33, and Five others on the 21st of July, 2023 along Zaria – Kano Road with 39 blocks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 21.8Kg marked a significant step in curbing the distribution of these illicit substances.

He explained that “This operation not only removed a substantial quantity of cannabis from circulation but also sent a strong message to those involved in the illegal drug trade that their activities will not go unnoticed or unpunished.”

In a similar operation, the Command intercepted a significant haul of cannabis sativa on the 22nd of July, 2023, leading to the arrest of one James Temitope, 42, around Gadar Tamburawa with 64 blocks weighing 37.4kg.

The statement noted that “Following the arrest of James Temitope, the command has successfully apprehended one Sani Muhammad, 23, on 25th of July, 2023, who was found in possession of 16 blocks of cannabis sativa weighing 8.5kg, while Aminu Sani, 23, was found in possession of 5.5kg of 8 and a half blocks on the 29th of July, 2023. ”

In a separate operation, on July 25, the command successfully intercepted and confiscated a staggering 2,000 ampules of Pentazocin injection weighing 2kg, along Kano – Maiduguri Express Way, leading to the arrest of two suspects: Emeka Williams, 31, and lnusa Al-Hassan, 31. The 2,000 ampules seized represent a significant dent in the illegal drug supply chain.

Maigatari expressed happiness that this haulage will undoubtedly disrupt the illegal drug market and protect the community from the potential harm caused by the on of controlled substances. Building upon the success of the previous operations the Command struck again on the 31st of July, 2023, arresting Muhammad Dikko Abubakar, 35, in the possession of one sack of cannabis sativa, weighing 12kg.

He stressed “This seizure demonstrates the growing determination of the command in tackling drug networks. “we aim to crippling their operations and protect our communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse.”

The Acting Public Relations Officer disclosed that Usaini Hamza, 45 and Sani Bello Dahiru, 30, were also arrested at Kwanar Dangoro on the same 31 of July, 2023, with 25 blocks of cannabis Sativa weighing 14kg, Muhamamd Ibrahim, 30, was also arrested along Zaria – Kano Road later on that day with 48 bottles of Codeine syrup weighing 4.8kg.

The statement maintained that “The recent achievements of the command in combating drug trafficking exemplify the agency’s unwavering commitment to protecting public health and safety. By disrupting criminal networks and raising public awareness in the state, the NDLEA plays a crucial role in safeguarding our society from the devastating effects of drug abuse.”

The statement therefore enjoined the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the NDLEA, stressing that “Together, we can build a safer and drug-free Kano for ourselves and future generations.”
