Senator Shehu Buba Umar representing Bauchi South Senatorial District has paid fine and compensation for 108 indigent inmates across the custodial centres in the state.
ASC Ahmad U. Tata Public Relations Officer Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS Bauchi Command made the disclosure in a statement.
He explained that Senator Buba who is the Senate Chairman Committee on National Security and Intelligent in the Red Chamber said, the essence of the gesture was to help the inmates to perform Ramadan fasting with their families rather than behind bars.
He added that the Senator who also gave the inmates some amount of money as empowerment, advised them to used it in developing the skills learned during their stay in custodial centres.
He further commended the effort of Controller of Corrections together with his subordinates for reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders.

In his response, the Controller of Corrections Bauchi State Command represented by ACC S.S. Sadau commended the Senator for the gesture, adding that it will go a long way in decongesting the already overcrowded custodial centres in the state.

To the benefiting inmates, the Controller admonished them to stay away from any criminal act to avoid punishment by the law.
