3 die, 2 injured in Kano building collapse

Three people have confirmed deaths, and two others sustained injuries following the collapse of a three-story building in the Kuntau area, known as the old airport, in Kano Metropolis.

PFS Saminu Yusuf Abdullahi, the Public Relations Officer, Kano State Fire Service. made the confirmation in a statement on Friday.

He explained that the incident occurred at approximately 09:25 am on Friday, April 26, 2024.

He further explained that upon arrival at the scene, the crew found a three-story building, roughly 50 x 50 feet, which was under construction, noting that the top portion had collapsed, tragically crushing the workers.

He added that Five people involved and subsequently rescued, maintaining that among the victims rescued, two were identified as Adamu Jamilu, an 18-year-old, and Adamu Yakubu, a 50-year-old. They were saved alive by the crew of the Service.

He However noted that  three other individuals were rescued in an unconscious state.

“All victims were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, doctors confirmed that the three individuals rescued alive from the incident later died in the hospital.

He maintained that the cause of the building collapse is currently under investigation.
