Residence of Electoral Commissioner in Kogi State Attacked by Gunmen

A group of gunmen, earlier in the morning on Friday, 1st December 2023, at approximately 3:30 am launched an attack on the residence of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Lokoja, Kogi State.

According an eyewitnesses accounts, the assailants engaged in a gun battle with the security personnel stationed at the residence for over 30 minutes until reinforcement arrived.

The said fortunately there were no reports of casualties, but the property sustained damage during the firefight.

To ensure the ongoing safety of the residence, a combined team of security personnel has been deployed for protection.

“It is worth noting that this incident follows a previous event where a mob surrounded the state office.

Given these incidents, there is a pressing need for a comprehensive investigation into the matter, as well as increased security measures to safeguard our personnel and assets in Kogi State.” Anonymous witness explained.
