Man, 26, Remanded for Allegedly Impersonating Customs Officer in Kano

Kano State Shari,a Court presided over by Nura Yusuf Ahmad has ordered the remand of one Umar Muhammad in Correctional Service for allegedly impersonating Nigeria Customs Service Officer to defraud innocent citizens.

Umar Muhammad, 26, a resident of Bachirawa, Ungogo LGA of the State on the 10th July, 2022 allegedly arrested and fraudulently impounded 24 bags (50kg) of rice from one Anas Muhammad (complainant).

Poliice Prosecutor, Aliyu Abiddeen Murtala told the court that the Defendant similarly forced the Complainant to bail his motor vehicle of the sum of N80,000 or risk seizure of the vehicle.

The prosecutor informed the court that during the course of investigation, conducted by the Police, full set of Custom Uniform and Police Identify card were recovered in his possession.

Acccording to the First Information Report (FIR),  the charge against the Defendant contravened section 122 of Kano State Sharia Law, the year 2000.

In another case, Umar Muhammad was similarly arraigned alongside one Abubakar Shuaibu.

They alleged to have been conspired together and committed theft and receiving stolen rice.

After reading over the FIR, Umar and Abubakar pleaded not guilty.

Meanwhile, Defence counsel Barrister Saiful haaq balare prayed the court to admit his clients to bail, he relied on section 35 and 36 (1) of Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

On his part, Prosecutor Abideen prayed the court not to admit the two Defendants to bail.

He urged the court to adjourn its sitting to allow him respond to the bail application by the Defense Counsel appropriately.

The Trial Judge fixed 16th July, 2022 to enable Abiddeen Murtala respond to the bail application, and adjourned the main the case to 27th September, 2022 for mention.
