Divorce: Court Adjourns sitting in suit filed by Asiya Umar Ganduje

The ongoing divorce case instituted by Asiya Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has faced a minor hitch, following a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the court.

When the Court resumed,  Thursday for counsel to the Respondent, Alhaji Inuwa Uba, Barrister Umar I Umar to respond to the claim by Asiya, he told the court that he filed a motion Yesterday, challenging jurisdiction of the court to hear the case.

Meanwwhile, Barrister Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa Counsel to the Plaintiff, prayed the court to adjourn its sitting to enable him study the motion and respond accordingly.

Consequently, the court adjourned to 12th January for counsel of the plaintiff to respond to the motion by Barrister Umar.

Speaking to Justice Watch News after the Court proceeding, Barrister Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa said under Islam law, a woman has a right to approach the  court to seek for a divorce if she doesn’t love her husband, or if she is living under strange condition, can go to court and file a claim of divorce and express her  willingness to give compensation to the husband for her marriage to be dissolved.

On his side, counsel to the respondent, Umar I. Umar said his client will continue to seek for reconciliation, calling on the plaintiff to forgive him.
