A.A Zaura’s Spokesperson Arraigned for Allegedly Defaming Senator Hanga’s Character

Ahmad Dahiru Maiwuddadu, who served as the spokesperson for Abdussalam Abdulkarim A.A Zaura, the Kano Municipal Senatorial Candidate during the last election, is being arraigned before the Kano State Chief Magistrate Court number 19.

He is accused of defaming and inciting public disturbance against Senator Rufa’i Hanga, who represents Kano central in the National Assembly.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) Sighted by Justice Watch News, Maiwuddadu is alleged to have defamed Senator Hanga’s character during a radio program titled ‘Tauraron A.A Zaura’, which was sponsored by A.A Zaura.

The prosecutor, Barrister Fatima Adamu Ahmad, alleged that the defendant referred to Senator Hanga as a drunkard who embezzled money belonging Kano Municipal constituent and spent it in clubs and beer parlors.

The prosecution stated that these alleged offenses violated sections 393 and 144 of the Penal Code Law.

However, Maiwuddadu denied committing the offense.

During the court session, defense counsel Anthony Agugu orally requested that the court grant Maiwuddadu bail, citing relevant sections of the Nigerian Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Kano State, 2019.

The prosecution counsel did not object to the bail application, emphasizing that granting bail is within the court’s power.

Chief Magistrate Binta Galadanchi granted the defendant bail in the sum of two hundred thousand naira, along with two reliable sureties who shall be at least a level 12 in the Civil Service and either a Village head or Ward head.

The case has been adjourned until February 29th, 2024, for further mention.
