Tribunal Sets Deadline For Written Addresses, As NNPP Closes Defence Without Calling For Witness

The New Nigeria Peoples Party on Monday closed its case without calling any witness in the ongoing petition filed by APC before Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

When the Tribunal resumed today for NNPP to open its defense, Barrister Tijjani Yahaya, its counsel informed the tribunal that upon careful review of the witnesses and evidences adduced by APC and the only witness of the second respondent, there is no need for NNPP to present any witness.

“My Lord we humbly apply for the case to be closed” Yahaya said.

The APC, (Petitioner) is challenging the declaration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, (2nd respondent) by INEC as winner of the election that was conducted on 18th March, 2023.

The Petitioner is also praying the Tribunal to declare that Abba Kabir’s name was not being in the list of members of NNPP sent to INEC 30 days before the Election, asking the Tribunal to so hold.

Justice Watch News recalls that the APC called 32 witnesses to prove its allegations against the 3 Respondents.

On its parts, INEC, closed its defense without calling any witness, so also the 2nd Respondent, Abba Kabir.

Counsel to INEC, Emmanuel Osayomi, and Counsel to Kabir Yusuf, Eyitayo Fatigun SAN, did not object.

Counsel to the petitioner, Prof Sam Erugo, also did not object.

The three Judge panel led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay ordered all parties to file their written addresses on Aug.15, adding that there will be no exention of time.

She adjourned the matter until 21st Aug.for adoption of final written address.
