Theft, Vandalism of Poly Dutse Property: 3 Students Apprehended

Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command have arrested six suspects involved in vandalisation, theft, criminal conspiracy and receiving stolen property.

CSC Adamu Shehu Civil Defence Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command stated this in a statement.

He identified the Three suspects as Basiru Kawu aged 20, Sabiu Salisu and Ismail Abdullahi aged 23 respectively, all students of Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse

He also said the Trio were arrested on Monday, 6th day of November, 2023 following report by the Zai-Galadimawa Community at the Dutse Divisional office that they sighted a burnt armoured cable suspected to vandalised and kept in one particular compound.

He similarly said upon receipt of the information, surveillance was emplaced by NSCDC officers providing security at the State Polytechnic Dutse and those from the Divisional office.

Fortunately, he maintained that  two of the suspects Sabiu and Ismail were apprehended on the spot when they went steal the cable early in the morning.

He added that Basiru was later fished out when his name was mentioned in the course of investigation.

“During investigation, they confessed to have vandalised a complete 2HP 1.5KW submersible water pump with its wiring and piping belonging to Sahad Store, a popular shopping mall adjacent to Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.”

He noted that further investigation revealed that they conspired and stole over thirty ceiling fans, from a newly constructed hostel of Jigawa State Polytechnic which they sold at a give away prices of between N2000 to N3000 to Umar Lawal Girei (32), Abubakar Abdulkarim (25) both of Yalwawa Layin Gidan Wanka and Kamal Safiyanu (22) of Zai Quarters, Dutse who were both arrested.

CSC Shehu pointed out that other items recovered include burnt armoured cable, electric wires, all belonging to the State Polytechnic.

“However, 25 ceiling fans and a submersible water pump were recovered in the course of investigation and will be handed over to the School.

“The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged to a court of competent jurisdiction.”

Meanwhile, the newly posted State Commandant Muhammad Danjuma, while parading the suspects, assured the good people of the State his readiness to fight act of vandalism to the latter and therefore warned vandals to stay off.
