Road Crashes: FRSC Tasks Motorists, Commuters On Speed Limit

The Kano State Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Zubairu Mato has urged the private as well as commercial motor vehicle drivers to abide by the Federal Government’s policy of Speed Limiting Device installation on motor vehicles to reduce the rate of Road Traffick Crashes in Kano and Nigeria as at large.

Zubairu Mato made the assertion during his interaction with the Justice Watch News as part of the activity to marked 6th year of UN Global Road Safety Week in Kano.

He said the week was first established in 2007 by UN Regional Commission and World Health Organization (WHO).

” It was established in 2007 by UN Regional Commission and World Health Organization (WHO) It was periodic long week activity fixed to hold every 17th to 23rd May to sensitize Public on dangerous driving and over speed.”

He pointed out that the theme of this year’s annual Global Road Safety Week is ‘Making /30km/h speed limits’.

Mato stated that the week activity will be focusing on the issue of speeding, which has been the responsible for the 30% of Global Traffic Accident.

” We solicit for the support of decision maker, Religious Leaders,. Members of the Civil Society Organization, Sister Security Agencies and All other stakeholders to drastically reduce the rate of Road Crashes in Kano.

He added that speed attributed to 30% accident Globally and in Nigeria stated that speed recorded 43-47% Crashes .

He stressed that Federal Road Safety Corps insisted on installation of the speed limit device on vehicles explaining that the Device is significantly limit the speed of driver and track the location of the vehicle as well as increase the life span of the vehicle.
