Clergy Advocates Peaceful Coexistence to Curtail Hate Speech in Kano

Reverend Timta L. Musa, the Vice Chairman of Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and a fellow of Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace, emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and the need to address hate speech as he conducted a community development and peace program at the CAN Kano State Secretariat.

The program was part of the fellowship requirements of the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace, where each fellow must organize a community project.

Reverend Musa chose to focus on the significance of peace and the negative consequences of hate speech in his immediate community, Sabon Gari in Fagge local government area.

Under the theme ‘Hate Speech as a trigger for conflicts in the Sabon Gari Area of Kano State Nigeria: causes, Effect, and Mitigation Strategies’, Reverend Timta highlighted hate speech as a destructive force that has impacted his community, Goza LGA, and Borno State over the span of a decade.

He stressed the interconnection between peace and hate speech, stating that hate speech often leads to conflicts.

Reverend Timta encouraged participants to raise awareness of peace within their communities to foster a better society.

In his speech Kano State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf represented by Director in the Ministry of Inter Religious Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad A. Ibrahim highlighted on the importance of peace in the state, stressing that not society can be developed in chaos and disorder.

In a remark, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Hussain Gumel represented by DPO in charge of Nomansland Divisional Police Headquarters, CSP Mannir Madugu said the event is part of his cardinal principles.

He added that the command established Community Policing Initiatives Strategy to fight criminals in Kano.

The cp called for support and intelligent report to enable police prevent lives and property in the state.

According to him, God has created human beings and differed in their religion, cultural and tribe to text their capability, advising public to live in peace with one another

The event was attended by representatives of Religious, Traditional Leaders, CSOs, NGOs, and others.
