16 Days of Activism: Human Rights Commission Advocates For More Legal Framework

The Kano State Coordinator, National Human Rights Commission, Barrister Shehu Abdullahi has said that, fighting the menace of Sexual and Gender Based Violence require a holistic approach among stakeholders, with the view to curtailing the menace.

Barrister Shehu Abdullahi made the disclosure shortly after he led staff of the Commission, and other stakeholders which include Lawyers, NGO,s CBO, on a rally as part of the activities to during this year’s 16 Days of Activism to Eliminate the Violence and Discrimination Against Women and Girls.

He said National Human Rights Commission, Kano Office, will visit Office of the State Attorney General, Chief Judge to Advocate for more legal framework that will assist in mitigating the menace of Sexual and Gender Based Violence in Kano.

He also stated that the Commission will similarly conducted sensitization programme at schools on reportage of Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases to relevant Authorities.

Also speaking, Mustapha Sa’eed Kano, Executive Director Centre For Legal Orientation and Humanitarian Aid called on the Security Agencies, and all other stakeholders to put their hands on deck with a view to fighting the scourge noting that Women, Girls and Children are the most vulnerable part of society.

Similarly in his speech, Comrade Balarabe Shehu Leko, Executive Director, Human Rights and Community Development Services Initiatives, urged parents to take a proper monitoring of their children.

He enjoined them to report any suspicious movement of strangers to nearest security agencies.
