ICAN never compromised its integrity says Kano District chair

Chairman Institute of Accountant (ICAN) and District Society, Kano Chapter, Malam Salisu Haruna has described ICAN as a formidable Institution that has never compromised its integrity over the years.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano Haruna said with the passage of time, the members of Chartered Accountants increased tremendously and eventually the Kano District of Society of ICAN was inaugurated on the 9th December 1072 and that it was the 5th District Society to be created after Lagos.

According to him, academically, the District has produced 3 professors, 10 PhDs, 4 Head of Departments of Accounting and so many lecturers in addition to having 4 of its members that are Bursar’s of tertiary Institutions in Kano and Jigawa States.

He however stated that in order to facilitate the production of of middle level manpower needed by the nation in its development process, the Institute has introduced Accounting Technicians Scheme West Africa(ATSWA)

Commenting on the challenges ICAN is facing, Haruna further revealed that there were interferences from other professional bodies with the activities of ICAN in which court cases are still pending.

He said the Kano district society of the ICAN was established in 1972, making it 50 years now, hence the need to celebrate and reflect on the success they have recorded so far and also plan for the future, adding that the event will hold from 19th to 22nd December, 2022.

He further said, part of the activities to celebrate the golden jubilee is to visit orphanage homes, organize professional conference, launch District Almanac and Magazine, and also launch the Accounting Technician Scheme (ATSWA) to train students on accounting skills.
