FCE Bichi On Path to Chronic Decay- COEASU

Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union COEASU, Federal College of Education, Bichi branch has commenced the observing of a one week industrial action to compel the management of the school to redress what it described as poor learning environment and prevailing insecurity conditions.

The chairman of the union, Mohammed Salisu Inusa, in a chat with journalists at the NUJ Kano press centre on Tuesday further said the labor action is aimed at attracting the attention of government officials to hurriedly redress the broken laboratories, halls, and hostels to provide a conducive environment for learning in the school.

According to him, the security outfit contracted by the college to provide security services were been owed over six months fees, leading to the present poor security situation on campus.

He also alleged that offices were been burgled by yet to be identified criminals, adding that official office equipments and personal belongings properties such as laptops were been stolen from offices by the unknown criminals, he added that student hostels were nit immune from the activities of the criminals.

Comrade Mohammed lamented that staff of the college were also been owed huge back log of unpaid allowances, he said the campus recently wore unkempt looks, explaining that cleaners are not paid their entitlements, exposing the campus inhabitants to possible disease outbreak.

He further alleged that the management of the college have failed to yield to negotiations and dialogues held in the past, warning that at the end of the one week strike, if their demands are not met, the union would order its members to proceed on indefinite strike action.

Mohammed disclosed that, in the past 10 years gradates of FCE Bichi were not issued with the mandatory teachers certificate by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, TRCN , noting that this is a huge yoke shouldered by past graduates churned out by the college since.
