Sabon Gari Market: Kano Court affirms 15-year lease of shop owners

Chief Judge Justice Dije Aboki of the Kano State High Court has affirmed that the plaintiffs have a 15-year subsisting lease for their shops at Muhammad Abubakar Rimi Market, (Sabon Gari) Kano.

The lease began in July 2020 and ends in June 2035, and the defendants have no lawful right to evict the plaintiffs.

Justice Aboki also declared that the plaintiffs are in lawful possession and rightful occupants of their shops at YMP, 2 UNIT OF PC AND YBP, and cannot be evicted by the defendants for individual personal interest.

The Court further awarded the cost of N300,000 against the defendants in favor of the Applicants.

The Court considered receipts of payments issued by the respondents to the Applicants in delivering the judgment.

She maintained that any attempt by the defendants or anyone else to remove the plaintiffs from their possession is illegal, null, void, and against public policy.

The Applicants in the suit including; Alhaji Musa Yakubu, Zikirulla S. Muhammad, Alh Isah Muhammad Usman and others.

While the defendants included; Muhammad Abubakar Rimi, Sabon Gari Market, Company Limited and Uba Zubairu Yakasai.
