NNPP Counsel Dispels Rumours On Kano Governorship Tribunal

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Legal counsel, Barrister Bashir Yusuf Tudun Wuzirci has called on public to disregard rumours on social media platforms that the Kano Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has commenced sitting.

Speaking to Justice Watch News, on Wednesday, the Lawyer said those peddling rumours with regards to Governorship Election Petition were doing so to over heat the polity, revealed that the
the Tribunal is yet to be inaugurated.

He said since last week people were misleading public that the Kano Governorship Tribunal will deliver judgement today, Wednesday.

“How can this be possible when the Tribunal was not being inaugurated. They want to create a wrong impression on the Tribunal. This is sad and unfounded” Barrister Muhammad lamented.

“I don’t know the motives behind creating confusion and fabricated story of Governorship election tribunal.”

He further lamented that some were creating rumours on Kano Governorship Election Petition to have more followers on their social media platforms while others were engaging on the habit with the intent to create wrong impression.

The legal practitioner stated that Election Petition is time bound, noting that every step was captured in the Electoral Act 2021 and Constitution of Federal Republic Nigeria 1999, noting there is no cause of alarm.

The Counsel pointed out that legally speaking, there was stipulated period within which a petitioner will file his petition before the Tribunal and accordingly served the processes to respondents as well as the time within which the respondents will respondents to the petition.

He further shed light on the processes, stressing  that a petitioner has 21 days to file his petition before Election Petition Tribunal after official declaration of an election result.

He maintained that the Respondent has 21 days similarly to respond after he was served with the petition.

Thereafter according to Tudun Wuzirci, petitioner has 5 days within which to file his reply, the petitioner will subsequently apply for pre hearing session.

He further explained that all these steps have to be done before the proper session or hearing of the petition as well as the defense.

“As I’m talking to you now, Wednesday, 10th May, 2023, non of the proceses i explained occurred. the process are yet to be concluded the parties have not yet exchanged the processes. We’re still within time to file our reply. I want inform Kano citizens that kano governorship Tribunal doesn’t commence sitting and doesn’t inaugurated, therefore whoever was saying that judgement will deliver today was doing so to create tension.

“I know Kano people are law abiding citizens and well educated as well, I urge you to remain calm and disregard any rumour going on in social media platforms, I assure that nothing will stop swearing in of Kano Governor-elect.” Barrister Bashir further said.
