Former KEDCO Staff, Others Arrested for Allegedly Vandalizing Cable Wires in Jigawa

Rabi’u Ibrahim, aged 46 and a former KEDCO employee, was apprehended by the police, along with three accomplices, on Kazaure to Roni route, Jigawa State.

They were allegedly found in possession of armored cable wires, believed to have been stolen.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam Jigawa Police Public Relations Officer in a statement on Monday said on 31st March, 2024 at about 0100hrs, the Police Patrol team from Kazaure Divisional Headquarters, while on routine patrol along the Kazaure to Roni axis intercepted four men syndicate with armored cable wire strongly suspected to be vandalized cable wires.

He explained that on sighting the patrol team, the suspects took to their heels, leaving behind the cable wires.

“Following an in-depth investigation, on the same date at about 0300hrs, the following suspects were individually arrested in connection with the case and brought to the station.

According to him, they are one Rabi’u Ibrahim ‘m’ age 46yrs of Tsamiya Tara quarters who is an Ex-KEDCO staff, Hamisu Gawo ‘m’ age 28yrs of Bagara quarters (gang leader), Halifa Lawal ‘m’ age 22yrs of Tsohon Kafi quarters and Abdurrahman Rabi’u ‘m’ age 28yrs of Tsohon Kafi quarters all of Kazaure LGA.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to having vandalized the cable wires that connect Roni and Gwiwa LGAs with light (power).”

In the same vein he said on 28th March, 2024 at about 1830hrs, information at Police disposal revealed that, a step-up transformer belonging to Gajo Farm Yard, along Hadejia road was vandalized by unknown persons which as a result some part of the transformer is missing.

“Upon receipt of the information, Policemen attached to the Dakaiyawa Yalleman Division swung into action and visited the scene of the crime to ascertain the incident.

“On their arrival, they discovered that the said transformer was vandalized by unscrupulous elements, and parts of it were carted away.

“Following a tip-off, on 29th March, 2024 at about 1300hrs, the following suspects were arrested in connection with the case (1) Gambo Usman ‘m’ age 30yrs, (2) Abubakar Ismail ‘m’ age 35yrs all of Yalleman town Kaugama LGA and one Muhammad Ibrahim ‘ m’ age 60 yrs of Hadin village Kaugama LGA.

DSP Shiisu pointed out that in another development, on 30th March, 2024 at about 1455hrs, a Patrol team attached to Dutse Division, while on routine Patrol around Mechanic village arrested one Najib Kawu ‘m’ 18yrs of Fagoji quarters in possession of a reasonable quantity of burnt copper wires strongly suspected to be stolen, adding that he was taken to the Divisional Crime Branch for questioning.

“On interrogation, the suspects confessed to having bought the said cable wires at the sum of thirty thousand naira (N30,000.00k) from one Ezekiel ‘m’ who is now at large.”

He stressed that efforts are being intensified to apprehend the principal suspect.

DSP Shiisu maintained that On 31st March, 2024 at about 1630hrs, the Police Patrol team attached to Jahun Divisional Police Headquarters, arrested and brought to the station one Bello Ibrahim ‘m’ age 19yrs of Kabala quarters Jahun LGA in possession of a burnt armored cable wire strongly suspected to have been vandalized cable wires.

He further said on interrogation, the suspect confessed to having bought the cable wires from one Jafar Ayuba ‘m’ age 18yrs of Miga quarters Jahun LGA. The said Ja’afar Ayuba was also arrested.

He added that on interrogation, the suspects confessed to having dugout the wires from the Jahun Education Department.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam assured that all the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the discreet investigation.
