Sequel to the upcoming local government elections across the state’s twenty seven (27) local government areas scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2024, the Jigawa state Police Command has made all security arrangements to ensure that the process is carried out peacefully.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa state Police Command, Dutse made this known in a statement.

He said the Command, led by CP AT Abdullahi informed the law abiding citizens of the state to come out en masse and vote peacefully as preserved in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria without fear of being threatened or intimidated.
He further said the Conventional Policemen, Mobile Policemen, Personnel from Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD), Operatives from State Intelligence Department (SID), and Traffic Wardens as well as necessary logistics have been deployed at various polling units, collation centers and the Jigawa state Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) Headquarters to ensure that the sensitive and non sensitive materials, electorates, JISIEC officials, and adhoc staff are well protected and maintain law and order during the whole process.
He noted that “Personnel deployed for this critical task are warned to be civil and courteous, shun any form of corrupt activities and maintain a high level of professionalism.
“In light of this, the Command has imposed restrictions on all forms of vehicular movement except those on essential service, such as JISIEC Officials, Election Observers, Ambulances to Medical Emergencies, Fire Fighters e.t.c. from Friday 4th October, 2024 by 12:00am to Saturday 5th October, 2024 by 06:00pm.

DSP Shiisu highlighted that in a related development, the Command also reminded the political parties and their supporters in the state, that the ban on political thuggery, use of weapons such as; cutlass, stick, knife, machetes, bow and arrow, guns and other dangerous weapons during election is still enforced.
” The political parties and their followers intending to use weapons and any kind of its kinds are advised to refrain from such and strictly adhere and abide by the rules and regulations governing the electoral process.”
“Similarly, the Command warns all security aids and escorts from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling units and collation centers during the elections period.”
In this regard, the Command in collaboration with all Sister Security Agencies and other relevant Stakeholders will work harmoniously to fish out those troublemakers and their sponsors as well, conduct discreet investigation and arraigned them in court to face the full wrath of the law.

He added that police as lead and law enforcement agency will not allow criminal elements who may take this advantage to foment trouble and violate the provision of the law as contained in the electoral act as amended, noting that anyone found wanting will be dealt with decisively.
“The Commissioner of Police, calls on the good people of the state to make judicious use of provided guidelines so as to attain free, fair and credible elections in the state.” DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam maintained.
