9 Inmates Gain Admission To Study in NOUN – NCoS

The atmosphere at the Medium Security Custodial Center, Kaduna, Kaduna State was that of joy and happiness as 9 inmates were formally matriculated into the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) to study various courses.

In his speech Vice-chancellor NOUN, Prof. Olufemi Peters, who was represented by Dr. Umar Aminu, the director of the Kaduna study center challenged the inmates to be studious, have thirst for knowledge, test the limits of ideas, be exploratory and of good courage.

He also prayed for their success, to be champions of nation building, productivity, technological advancement, norm challenging break through and global competence, with skills that will enable them to solve real life problems in the new world.

The Controller of Corrections, Umar Audu in his address, expressed happiness over the increasing rate of inmates.

Acccording to him, it was a successful story being one of the focal and core mandate of the Nigerian Correctional Service, that is to Reform, Rehabilitate and Reintegrate offenders through access to quality education and vocational skill acquisition.

The Controller also pointed out that the Kaduna Custodial Study Center has 5 P.G.D.E students, 14 400 level students, 15 300 level students, 13 200 level students. And among these students 4 students are on the verge of graduating after a current semester exams in the following courses;B.SC Communication Technology, B.SC Computer Science, B.A Christian Theology and B.SC Biology.

The Controller on behalf of the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa congratulated the new students and also encouraged other students to consider themselves lucky and be serious in their studies.

He implored them to know that education liberates the mind.

He assured the public of a safe and a crime free society as inmates entrusted to the care of NCoS are reformed and ready to make meaningful contribution to the development of the society.
