The Jigawa State Police Command says it has made a significant progress in addressing criminal activities within the state, with the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and a locally made firearms manufacturer.
DSP Shiisu Lawan Adam Command’s Spokesperson made this known in a statement.
He explained that the arrests were made following a joint operation by the police, local vigilante group, and intelligence gathering.

He said on 16th November 2023, the police, in collaboration with the local vigilante group, apprehended one Bashir Muhammed, aged 50, in Yandutsen Kawari village, Ringim LGA.
He also ssid upon searching his residence, a made pistol and two locally made rifles were recovered.
According to DSP Shiisu during interrogation, the suspect confessed to manufacturing and selling these firearms to unidentified individuals.
He noted that the State Commissioner of Police has ordered the suspect to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for further investigation.

He added that in another incident, on 17th November 2023, a distress call was received regarding the kidnapping of a 63-year-old business man, Alh. Shehu Kwaimawa, in Kwaimawa village, Dutse LGA.
“The police immediately responded to the scene and discovered that the kidnappers had fled with the victim.
“However, on 17th November 2023, the victim was released by the abductors at Baranda Forest in Dutse LGA.
The Jigawa Command PPRO maintained that acting on a tip-off, a joint operation team consisting of police officers, operatives from the State Intelligence Bureau, and members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria conducted a raid on Rigija Fulani settlement in Hara Village, Dutse LGA on 18th November 2023.

“The operation resulted in the recovery of twenty-nine cows, four sheep, a broken butt of a rifle, one chain, and a Boxer Motorcycle with registration number KMC 790 HJ Kano, believed to have belonged to the fleeing kidnappers.”
He affirmed that all recovered items have been taken into custody for further investigation.
“Following the subsequent investigation, three individuals, namely Samaila Adamu, Illiyasu A. Abdu, and Mamman Abdullahi, were arrested and identified by the kidnapped victim as being involved in his abduction.”
“Investigation is currently ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse, and upon completion, all arraigned before the court.” DSP Shiisu further said.
