KNSG To Tackle Poverty, Youth Unemployment Through Agriculture

Kano State Government  says it will leverage the potential of Audu Bako College of Agriculture to combat poverty and youth unemployment in the state.

A statement by Aminu Bello Sani Information Officer Office of Special Adviser on Higher Education, the Special Adviser to the Kano State Governor on Higher Education, Professor Auwalu Halliru Arzai revealed the plans today during a familiarization visit to the Audu Bako College of Agriculture as part of his efforts to tour the 12 higher institutions owned by the State Government.

Professor Arzai emphasized that agriculture serves as a major source of employment and is vital for achieving food security.

He highlighted that part of the incumbent government’s strategy, led by Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, to alleviate poverty and youth unemployment is to support trained middle-level Agricultural professionals in applying their knowledge for community development.

Professor Arzai encouraged the college to introduce innovative and marketable courses approved by NBTE, explore alternative revenue generation methods, and strengthen collaborations with partners, federal government establishments, and agricultural research institutes to facilitate rapid development.

Earlier, Professor Muhammad Abdu Wailare, the Provost of Audu Bako College of Agriculture, stated that the college was founded 45 years ago with the mission of training and equipping middle-level professionals with skills in agriculture and related fields for self-employment.

He commended the incumbent government for its commitment to positive educational development at all levels, both in words and actions, and urged the government to address challenges such as water supply, renovation of the administrative block, office complex, student hostels, toilets, and the completion of school fencing, among others.
