Kano Residents Seek Governor’s Intervention over alleged illegal Shops

Residents near the entrance of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano, expressed concern and have requested the intervention of Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf regarding the alleged construction of illegal shops along their road.

The residents’ spokesperson, Alhaji Anas Danmaliki, while briefing the Journalists Friday, stated that the construction of illegal shops on the road violated their constitutional rights to freedom of movement.

He called on Governor Yusuf to prevent the action.

He emphasized that the illegal construction of corner shops contradicts Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s vision.

He stressed that those engaging in such actions should not associate themselves with the Kano State Government.

Mustapha Abdulqadir, one of the affected residents, stated that he has been  in the area for over 40 years.

He emphasized that the road had never been blocked or constructed before,  revealing that the Managing Director of Kano State Urban Planning Development Authority, (KNUPDA) had recently assured them that no illegal construction would be allowed on the road.

Mustapha expressed confusion regarding the notification that some people had obtained building approval from KNUPDA.

He noted that the government had invested significant resources in constructing interlocking tiles on the road.

He referred to the removal of these tiles to pave the way for illegal shop construction as a misuse of taxpayer funds for personal gain, appealing to the Kano State Governor to investigate the incident.

When contacted Public Relations Officer of the KNUPDA, Bahijja Malam Kabara said the Authority will investigate the allegations before conducting. action.
