Kano CJ to Judges: Guard Against Conflicting Court orders

The Kano State Chief Judge Justice Nura Sagir Umar has called on Judges in the state to guard against issueing conflicting court orders as ordained by Justice Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Tanko Muhd, ahead of the 2023 general elections in the country.

Justice Umar made the plea during the opening ceremony of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kano Branch, Law week 2023.

” I enjoin my colleagues to heed to the warning of CJN against issuing conflicting court orders. No judge was ever called on issue of conflicting orders”

The Chief However urged the participants to place high premium on the implementation of Financial Autonomy for Judiciary to further strengthen the dispensation of justice in kano.

Acccording to the legal luminary Kano State has gone far insisting that much efforts need to be done to achieve the desired objectives.

In his goodwill message, the Kano State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Musa Abdullahi Lawan said Kano State Government is always ready to work with Nigerian Bar Association, maintaining that the State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has demonstrated his willingness at different occasions to work with the Association.

He however stated that Kano is the most peaceful state in Nigeria and that was due to the commitments and deliberate efforts by the State Government.

Also speaking, Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Jigawa State stated that Lawyers are Special in society stressing that they have a critical role in ensuring effective and speedy dispensation of justice no matter who is involved.

He reminded the participants on the embrace technology to enhance the dispensation of justice.

He similarly stated that lawyers are so special in society saying with the emergence of crimes they need to prepare and face the contemporary challenges.

Earlier in his welcome address, Barrister Aminu Sani Gadanya the Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Kano Branch pointed out that the theme of this year’s event is ” Legal Practice at crossroads; challenges of lawyering in the face of Nigeria’s current political and economic climate.

He further stated that the theme is clearly aimed at identifying the challenges faced by lawyers in current political and economic situation of Nigeria with particular reference to enforcement of judgements in Kano and other jurisdiction.
