Thuggery, Banditry: Law Professor Calls for Special Security Outfits in Northern States

A former Dean of the Faculty of Law at Bayero University Kano, Professor Mamman Lawan Yusufari, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has emphasized the need for Northern States Governments to establish special security outfits based on the requirements of the law and have the intention of reducing thuggery and other crimes across their states.

The University Don made the assertion while interacting with Justice Watch News on Saturday.

He lauded the positive role of state security outfits in curtailing security challenges in the North East, South South, and recently in Katsina and some states in the North-west region.

He gave references to the formation and active role of Civilian Joint Task Force in Borno and Yobe states, Amotekun in south West.

He urged for the establishment of similar outfit in Kano to tackle the rising cases of thuggery, banditry and kidnapping threats from neighbouring states of Kano.

The Professor, however, advised state officials against using the outfits to witch-hunt political rivalries, manipulate election results, or rig elections.
