Kano Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Ahmed Tijjani Mohammed, has emphasized the importance of the public downloading the new FRSC Mobile Application and National Crash Information Recording System to reduce the prevalence of road crashes, which result in loss of lives and properties.
The Kano Sector Commander, Mohammed, made the disclosure when he received the new leadership of the Kano Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on a courtesy visit.

He said the initiative was to compliment the digital transformation to enhance road safety, stressing that that the Application will among other use for reporting of accident location and rescue, vehicle speed, expiring date of driver’s license, dangerous driving, among others road safety issues.

He identified journalists as partners in Progress, noting that Public Awareness is one of the core mandate of the Commission, noting that it wouldn’t be possible without cooperation with Journalists.
The Sector Commander extolled Journalists in Kano for assisting the commission to achieve its public awareness programs and road safety campaign at no cost.

The Kano FRSC Boss, Mohammed, added that the commission will soon launch its special clinic within its premises to handle emergency cases when accidents occur.
“We have our health personnel looking into the cases of accident victims at our headquarters here without taking them directly to the hospital. This will help in addressing the issues of congestion in hospital.”

“The victim will be transported directly from the accident scene to the commission to alleviate congestion in the hospital.”
He similarly lamented how road crashes contribute to the loss of lives and property, stressing that people need to exercise caution on dangerous driving.
He noted that the media has a role to play in ensuring that road crashes are reduced to the barest minimum in Kano.
He lauded the NUJ for the visit and pledged to engage the media in many programs of the commission to achieve his desired goals.

Earlier in a remark, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, Chairman of the Kano Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), noted that he led his executive team to meet with the Sector Commander, introducing themselves as the newly elected leaders of the Kano Council.

Dederi said his vision is to collaborate with the key relevant stakeholders and inspire journalists towards having a vibrant journalism community in Kano.
