Tragic Accident in Kano Claims 11 Lives, Leaves 16 Injured – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS1.2 Kano Sector Command, has expressed deep sadness in reporting a tragic road traffic crash that took place on 19th April, 2024, at approximately 15:45hrs local time.

CRC AA Labaran Sector Public Education Officer FRSC RS1.2 Kano Sector Command disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

He said the incident took place at the Gaya Junction along the Kano – Maiduguri road and involved two vehicles: a Toyota hummer bus with registration number KTG 190 XB and a Hijet mini p/up with registration number KTG 501 YG.

He revealed that preliminary investigations indicated that the probable cause of the crash was overspeeding, resulting in the loss of control and subsequent fire outbreak.

He explained that “A total of twenty-eight individuals were involved in the crash, with eleven fatalities and sixteen injuries reported.

one person was rescued unhurt from the wreckage.” He further said.

According to CRC Labaran, in response to the tragic event, the injured victims were swiftly transported to Gaya General Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the deceased were respectfully laid to rest in a mass burial ceremony.

He further that Kano Sector Commander CC IS Abdullahi expressed profound sorrow over the incident and emphasized the importance of compliance with road safety rules and regulations .

He warned drivers to refrain from committing traffic offenses such as speed violations and overloading of vehicles with passengers, animals, or goods.

He also advised commercial drivers to ensure installation of Speed Limit device on their vehicles to avoid crashes resulting for speed limit violations.
