Operation Hana Maye: Kano NDLEA Arrests 198 Suspects, Bursts Illegal Drug Joints

Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has arrested 198 suspects over allegedly involvement in various drug-related offences during the ongoing Operation Hana Maye that was recently lunched by the state Commander CN Mr. Idris Ahmad.

ASN II Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari, Public Relations Officer NDLEA, Kano State Command made the disclosure in a statement.

He said the operation was aimed at combating drug abuse and trafficking in the state.

He further said, the command’s relentless efforts have resulted in a series of arrests, including the busting of illegal drug joints, and the recovery of illicit substances.

“During the course of “Operation Hana Maye” that was launched on 17 January 2024, the NDLEA Kano command successfully apprehended a total of 198 suspects involved in various drug-related activities. Notably, among these arrests were 61 suspects, including 15 female suspects apprehended in a club that had been transformed into an illicit drug joint.”

Additionally, he maintained, the NDLEA Kano command arrested 42 suspects in the Dan Agundi graveyard, which had been identified as another location utilized for drug-related activities.

Maigatari revealed that the operation also dismantled drug joints in Sheka graveyard and sheka Obajana.

He added that, “These arrests demonstrate the command’s commitment to dismantling drug networks and eliminating drug trafficking hotspots in the state.”

The PRO maintained that, in conjunction with the arrests, the command successfully recovered a substantial amount of illicit substances.

He highlighted that, “These seizures include various drugs such as Exol – 5, rubber solution, suck and die, cannabis, and other dangerous substances.

According to him, the recovery of these illicit substances is a significant blow to the drug trade in the state and will contribute to the reduction of drug availability and abuse.

Furthermore, he explained that the NDLEA Kano command successfully dislodged 21 drug joints during the course of the operation. These drug joints serve as hubs for drug trafficking and consumption, posing a threat to the safety and well-being of the community.

“By dismantling these drug joints, the command aims to create a safer environment and discourage drug-related activities in the state.

“The NDLEA Kano command remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the region. The agency will continue to intensify efforts to identify and apprehend drug traffickers, disrupt drug supply chains, and provide necessary support and rehabilitation to those affected by drug addiction.

“The NDLEA Kano command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug abuse and trafficking to the appropriate authorities. Together, we can build a drug-free and safer society for all” He further stated.
