Nigeria Customs Service Warns Public Against Impersonating its Officers

Nigeria Custom Service, (NSC) has warned publics against impersonating its officers, stressing there will always be a waterloo for the criminals.

Kano/Jigawa Area Command Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Customs Abdullahi Lagos gave the warning in a chat with Journalists in his office on Saturday.

“It is absolutely joyous, apprehending one of such people impersonating Customs”

He pointed out that the Area Command is working 24hours round the clock with a view to arresting the imposters.

SC Lagos said even though the instant case was handled by the Nigeria Police, and there was no any official statement from the police about the case, but acccording to him the arrest was highly commendable.

“On this case, there is limitations to what i can tell you, because Customs was not officially informed by police, that is why i don’t want to speak much on this case, but at least this is good development,”

SC Abdullahi, further explained that Nigeria Customs as responsible Agency conducted its activities cut across anti smugling, Collection of Revenue, Trade Facilitation among others in tandem with the extant Laws of the land, Customs and Regulations CAP C 45 Laws of Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004 as amended.

“As a responsible Agency, we always operate with all diligence and mindful of our standard operating procedur. We also ensure that we don’t go outside the law”

He called on the public to provide intelligence and credible information to the Service stressing that the Agency will treat the information with utmost confidentiality and act accordingly.

Justice Watch News, earlier reports that Umar Muhammad, 26, a resident of Bachirawa, Ungogo LGA of  Kano State on the 10th July, 2022 allegedly arrested and fraudulently impounded 24 bags (50kg) of rice from one Anas Muhammad (complainant).

Police Prosecutor, Aliyu Abeeddeen Murtala told the court that the Defendant similarly forced the Complainants to bail his motor vehicle in the sum of N80,000 or risk seizure of the vehicle.

Umar Muhammad was similarly arraigned alongside one Abubakar Shuaibu, who allegedly recieved the stolen rice.

The duo pleaded not guilty, consquently, the Court ordered their remand in Correctional  facility until 16th August 2022 for Inspector Aliyu Abiddeen to respond on the bail application by defense counsel, Barrister Balare
