In a powerful display of unity between the bar and the bench, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Ungogo Branch, Kano State, has honored Abdu Abdullahi Waiya, Judge of the Upper Sharia Court, with the Meritorious Award of Excellence.
The award, presented during the branch’s 2025 Law Week celebration, recognizes his outstanding contributions to the justice sector and his enduring partnership with the legal community in Kano.
The ceremony, held on August 1st, 2025, brought together legal luminaries, scholars, and advocates committed to strengthening the rule of law.

Judge Waiya’s recognition was a highlight of the event, symbolizing the deep respect and admiration he commands within the judiciary and the broader legal fraternity.
In an emotional interview with Justice Watch News, Judge Waiya expressed profound gratitude for the honor, describing it as “a gesture that touches the heart and speaks volumes about the enduring relationship between the bar and the bench in Kano State.”
He extended sincere appreciation to the NBA Ungogo Branch Chairman, Ahmad Abubakar Gwadabe, the executive committee, and the entire membership for their generosity of spirit. “This award is not merely a personal honor,” he said, “I receive it on behalf of the entire judiciary of Kano State.”

Judge Waiya dedicated the award to the Honorable Chief Judge of Kano State, the Grand Khadi, the honorable judges and magistrates, and all judiciary staff who continue to serve with integrity, impartiality, and courage. “It is a sincere recognition of our collective commitment, discipline, and sacrifice,” he affirmed.
