The Child Protection Network (CPN), Kano State Branch, has appealed to the state government and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) to provide a shelter for children trafficked from other countries.

According to Hajiya Zainab Ahmed Suleiman, Secretary of the CPN in Kano, the shelter is necessary to provide temporary accommodation for the children before they are reunited with their families.

The call was made after a two-day step-down training for members of the network, aimed at enhancing their capacity to protect children’s rights and prevent trafficking.

The CPN urged the government and IOM to provide the necessary support to establish the shelter, which will serve as a safe haven for trafficked children.

Muhd Alli Mashi, a member of the CPN Board of Trustees noted that the Network concluded a 2-day step-down training for its members in Kano, aimed at promoting child rights and preventing abuse.

He explained that the training, which drew participants from state and non-state actors, including civil society organizations, NGOs, media, traditional leaders, and religious faith groups, focused on sensitizing communities on child protection issues.

According to Mashi, the training emphasized the importance of protecting children from molestation, abuse, and exploitation, noting that the CPN’s mission is to promote the rights of children, provide support to victims of child abuse, and advocate for policy changes to protect children.

The training, which was a follow-up to a similar event held in Port Harcourt last month, aimed to cover all 44 local government areas in Kano with massive sensitization and enlightenment campaigns.
