Kano Chief Judge Tasks Women Lawyers on SGBV

The Kano State Chief Judge Justice Nuraddden Sagir has charged Members of the International Federation of Women Lawyers Kano State Branch to redouble their effort towards curtailing sexual and gender based violence in the state.

Justice Sagir made the disclosure when the Executive Members of FIDA, Kano State Branch paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He lamented that the statistics available at the Kano State judiciary revealed that the violence against children and women were increasing at alarming rate.

He maintained that women and children are the most vulnerable groups in society, calling on FIDA to leave up to the expectations by ensuring that suspected person are punished acccording to the extant laws of the contrary.

In her speech Justice Dije Aboki, the Kano State High Court Judge lamented the delay process in passing the Child Right Act in the state.

According to her, the Act if established will promote the dignity and as well as the sanctity of women and children in Kano.

Aboki called on Members of FIDA in Kano to consider lives of women and children as utmost priority.

Earlier Speaking, the Chairperson of FIDA, Kano State Branch, Barrister Bilkisu Ibrahim Suleiman noted that the visit to State Chief Judge was part of the tradition of every newly inaugurated Executives of FIDA to solicit support and guidance to succeed in the discharge of their responsibility.
