Horse Saga: Court Remands Rider for Killing AKTH Staffer

Kano state Senior Magistrate Court presided over by Mansur Yola has remanded one Usman Abubakar, who allegedly killed Kamal Umar a staff of Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, (AKTH) while riding a horse at Gyadi-gyadi, along Yan azara in Kano Metropolis.

Abubakar, 20, allegedly committed the offence on 1st Sept. 2022.

When the case came up before the court for arraignment, Barrister Aminu Kawu, Principal State Counsel from Kano State Ministry for Justice, said the court lacks jurisdiction to entertain an offence of such nature.

He similarly prayed the court to adjourn the case, pending when the office of Attorney General Kano will provide legal advise.

The prosecution counsel said the offence contravened section 222 sub 7 of Penal Code Law.

Consquently, Magistrate Mansur Yola adjourned the case until 27th October, for mention.

However, speaking to Justice Watch News after the court sitting, Hajiya Asma’u Abdulkadir a mother of the deceased said she was in court to seek for justice over the alleged killing of her breadwinner.

She called on Government and other security agencies to ban the unnecessary riding of horse.

She maintained that number of victims being killed by horse riders in Kano is absolutely alarming.
