Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency, development, and media collaboration.
Governor Yusuf who was represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo made the assertion during a courtesy visit by the NEC members of the NUJ led by National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.
The visit was part of the ongoing NUJ National Executive Council (NEC) meeting hosted in Kano.
Governor Yusuf welcomed the NUJ delegation to Kano, assuring his readiness to work directly with the NUJ to further bring development to the people of Kano.

He highlighted recent infrastructure upgrades, healthcare investments, and rural development initiatives, across the 44 local government areas.
In his speech the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya, lauded the developmental achievements of Kano State under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing the state’s progress as “qualitative and impressive.”
He said the choice of Kano as host was deliberate, aimed at allowing union members to witness firsthand the transformation taking place across the state.
“Our members are here to see the development projects for themselves. The testimonies from our members speak volumes,” Yahya stated.
The National president of the NUJ further expressed appreciation to the Governor for
the donation of 11 motorcycles to its members in Kano, alongside 450bags of rice to support journalists’ welfare.
The Union also commend the Kano state Governor for hosting the National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) NEC Meeting some month backs.

I want extend our commendation also to Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for information and Internal Affairs Kano State for organizing warmest reception to conduct this Meeting. This NEC Meeting of the NUJ further highlighting the state’s hospitality and commitment to press freedom.
Additionally, Comrade Yahya acknowledged the severance allowance granted to former Chairman NUJ Kano Council Comrade Abduljalal Haruna, who died in active service, describing it as a gesture of respect and continuity within the union.
He pointed out that the visit underscored the NUJ’s commitment to fostering strong relationships with state governments and promoting journalistic excellence across Nigeria.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for information and Internal Affairs Kano State, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya said Kano state Government provides enabling environment for the journalists to operate freely.
He stressed that the government provides training and retraining to journalists, among other significant activities to support press freedom in Kano.

He said the Kano State Governor received an award from the NUJ as a media-friendly governor.
Some of the projects supervised by the NEC members of the NUJ include three layer interchange bridges at Dan’agundi junction, and clover leaf Overpass bridge at Tal’udu, and the construction of three lecture theatres currently ongoing at Northwest University, Kano.
