The Kano State High Court presided over by Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji, has fixed 19th, 20th and 21st of December, 2022 for the continuation of hearing and opening of defence in the ongoing case of alleged culpable homicide against Chinese national, Mr. Frank Geng Quarong, who was alleged to have killed Ummulkhusum Sani Buhari.

Justice Watch News earlier reports that the Prosecution Counsel led by Kano Attorney General, Musa Abdullahi Lawan, called 4 witnesses and tendered 1 exhibit.
Justice Watch similarly recalls that the 4 witnesses that testified before the court include, Mother, sister to the deceased, Neighbor and Investigative Police officer.
The knife alleged to have been used in stabbing the deceased was also tendered in evidence and marked exhibit (A).
When the case resumed on Friday for the continuation of hearing, Kano Attorney General called PW 5, Inspector Ijupti Mbambo, Investigative Police Officer, from State Criminal Investigation Department SCID, Kano, who recorded statement of the defendant.

In his testimony before the court, Inspector Mbambo said he has been in police job for 21 years.
He also said on 17th September, 2022 at about 0800hrs he was on duty at SCID, Bompai when a case of culpable homicide was transfered from Dorayi Babba Police division and assigned to handle it among 2 other Police Detectives, that include: Chinda Chiwari as team leader, and wakala lawan
He also said he recorded the statement of defendant, under words of caution.
“I asked him for his lawyer, he told me he doesn’t have lawyer as that time. I also asked him of his relation he said his family reside in China,”

PW5 testified that after he recorded the defendant’s statement, he read it to his hearing and understanding, also gave him to read, which both of them signed and countersigned.
The witness told the court that he was not among members that visited scene of the crime, saying it was team work.
He said after the investigation concluded Mr. Frank charged to court for prosecution.
During cross examination led by Defense Counsel, Barrister Muhammad Balarabe Dan’azumi urged the witness to read the defendant’s statement loudly and to the hearing of everyone sitting inside the court room.
While reading the statement, PW 5 said the defendant name is Mr. Frank Geng Quarong, Chinese National and was born in Shandong, Republic of China.
He explained that his father died in China and he attended Shandong primary school and obtained his degree in Shandong, China.
He further said the defendant resides at Railway Quarters, in Kano and working with BB textile company.
The statement revealed that the deceased sometimes in 2020 through her colleague Asiya got his number and expressed her interest in him.
The Continued reading the statement “After we started our relationship i spent over N60 million to her, i gave her N18 million to her account and again i gave her N10 million to buy car and start business, i equally bought house for her at the sum of N4 million.”
“I gave her N8 million Naira to process her certificate in Usman Danfodiyo University, (UDU), Sokoto.”

“Ummulkhusum asked me to accept Islamic religion before she marry me and I accepted Islam as my religion,”
In the statement the defendant said upon all these; she went and married someone and the marriage lasted for two months only.
According to the statement, after she was divorced, she started calling him on phone, he said they continued with their relationship.
In the statement, Mr. Frank said on 16th of September he visited Ummulkhusum residence with his dog,
“That after I knocked at the deceased residence her sister Khadija collected my dog and went back to the house.
According to the statement defendant stayed outside the deceased residence for over 30 minutes without allowing him got access to the house.
Later after he simultaneously knocked at the door of the house, and the mother of the deceased opened for him.
“That when i got inside the house i carried my dog on my shoulder, I attempted to come out and the deceased prevented me from coming out.”
In the statement, the witness further said misunderstanding ensued between himself and Ummulkhusum, pointed out that she slapped him’ bite him in left hand.
That her mother talked to her but refused to listen, after she bite me and slapped me, i thereafter used the knife in my possession to stabbed her.
In the statement, Mr. Quarong said he was not happy with what transfered between himself and Ummulkhusum.
The court admitted the statement of the defendant and marked exhibit B.

Under cross examination the witness informed the court that there was signed of bruises on defendant’s neck when he was brought to police command and was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
PW 5 further testified that the defendant while in custody, he kept asking that he wanted to go and see the deceased, but was not allowed because of the security reasons.
