A Communication Lecturer in Bayero University Kano, (BUK) Dr. Bala Muhammmad has charged Journalists to give more priority on investigative and indepth reportage to further expose corruption and wrong doing in governance.
He gave the charge at 2-day media workshop on humanitarian reporting for Journalists selected from Kano, Sokoto, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna and FCT, organised by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).
“This is a great opportunity for journalists of this region to come together and learn skill and technical aspects of humanirian reporting and conflict in Nigeria,”

The Communication Don urged Journalists to give more priority to victims of disaster, conflict or any misfortune, rather than paying much attention to perpetrators.
He further enjoined Journalists to at all the times get the root cause of a conflict or disaster with a view to fine-tuning modalities to curtail it in the future.

He however commended Nigerian Journalists for the resilience and endurance while conducting their practices, despite the difficulty and challenges.

He reminded persons who want to become Journalist, to understand that Journalism comes with a lot of responsibilities.
Dr. Muhammad further called on Journalists to be more courageous, describing the profession as noble.
“Avoid being lazy Journalist, you have to be more innovative and creative to become famous.”
The Communication Expert reminded participants to operate within the ambit of code of ethics for Nigerian Journalist to protect themselves against unnecessary danger.
Earlier in his speech, Mr. Sa’eed Midadi, Head of Kano Office, ICRC, said the Humanitarian Organisation has been responding to humanirian needs arising from communal violence in Jos, Plateau State since 2012.
He also said ICRC is working with Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), the ICRC’s Sub-delegation in Jos and its Offices in Kano and Damaturu, currently cover operations in seven states including Bauchi, Benue, Kaduna, Kano, Nassarawa, Plateau and Yobe States to protect and assist affected people.

He added that ICRC monitored humanirian situation in Northwestern states of Nigeria with more emphasis on Kano.
He added that ICRC started its activities in Kano in 2014 with an office located at Orthopedic Dala.
