A Panacea for Unemployment, Banditry, Unrest

Ensure Good Moral Upbringing of Children at Home, Teach more Science and Technical Education in Schools” – Dr Kabir Kabo advises Stakeholders

An Academic, Manpower Development Expert and Pro-Chancellor of Prime University, Kuje, Abuja, Dr Kabir Kabo Usman, has advised Parents to pay more attention to the good moral upbringing of their wards, and for the Education Policy Makers to prioritize the teachings of science and technical education in our institutions of learning.

He disclosed that in some of the socioeconomically developed nations, Parents inculcate patriotism and good behaviours on their children at home, who are also imparted with knowledge especially of science and technology in schools.

Dr Kabir Kabo, formerly a Lecturer, Head of Department and Director of Curriculum at Manchester University in the United Kingdom, gave the Advise last weekend in an Address he sent to the 2025 Graduation Ceremony and 10th Anniversary of Al-Noor Academy at Wuse II, Abuja.

In the Address delivered on his behalf by the Bursar of Prime University, Kuje, Abuja, Malam Mustapha Badamasi Atiku, the Academic described education, especially of science and technology, as a key driver for economic growth and social development, and emphazised the need for Nigeria to align with the global trend.

Dr Kabir who was the Director General of Centre for Management Development, CMD, from 2010 to 2018, said he observed and appreciated the large population of youths in Nigeria, and then hammered on the need for them to be trained with skills to become productive members of society.

He believed that good moral upbringing of children at home, and teaching the youths the skills to be gainfully employed or self-reliant, will facilitate national development and will serve as an antidotes to the current societal ills like unemployment, kidnapping, banditry and unrest affecting the nation.

The Speaker who is currently the Director General of the International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, ICICE (the custodians of Al-Noor Mosque), Wuse II, in Abuja, said he is always passionate about education and recalled that a former South African President, Nelson Mandela, was reported to have said that “education is the only thing that can change anything” and also quoted a Pan-Africanist, Ghana’s first Prime Minister, Kwame Nkrumah who once said “education makes us tolerant and humble”.

In his Speech, the Chairman of Al-Noor Academy Governing Board, Dr. Ibrahim Dada, acknowledged the Academy’s perseverance through challenges, which he said ‘strengthened its foundation.“This milestone is a celebration of excellence, resilience, and purpose. I urge our graduating students to seek knowledge endlessly and strive to impact their communities and the world,” he said.

The Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmad (a Professor of Science Education) presented prizes and awards to outstanding students, serving and former staff of the Institution recognized for excellence, character, and dedicated service.

Established 10 years ago under the International Centre for Islamic Culture and Education, ICICE, within the premises of Al-Noor Mosque at Wuse II, Abuja, Al-Noor Academy integrates conventional education, Islamic teachings, Tahfeez (Qur’anic memorization), and adult literacy in its curriculums.
