An NGO, Partnership for Development Action (PADAC) foundation, a Focal NGO of Agro-Climate Reselliance in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL), has donated assorted economic seedlings the 26 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerians Army, Dutse, Jigawa.
The seedlings are those of mango, guava, banana, cashew, pawpaw, umbrella, soursop, custard pear, orange and date palms, and planted at the barracks’ orchard.
The Executive Director of the NGO, Aisha Muhammad, said the gesture is to promote tree planting for the protection and beautification of the barracks.
This is coming after the NGO, in July 2024, donated and planted 2,600 assorted seedlings in the barracks as part of its 2024 tree planting campaign in the state.
The exercise, led by Maj,-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, was part of activities at the inauguration of Headquarters 26 Armoured Brigade Complex, Commander’s residence and a Medical Centre, Yargaba, Dutse.
Saraso, who represented the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede at the event, commended the organization for the gesture urged personnel of the barracks to take good care of the seedlings.

In his remarks, Brig.-Gen. Teminere Mackintosh, the Commander of the 26 Armoured Brigade, also commended the NGO for selecting the institution for the exercise.
Mackintosh urged officers and men of the brigade to ensure that the seedlings are nurtured to maturity in order to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change.

He emphasised that the trees would not only beautify the surroundings, but also play vital roles in controlling erosion, maintaining a healthy environment, and providing shade for relaxation.
Service Chiefs in the and other interested individuals who attended the event also participated in the planting exercise.
