Uphold Doctrine Of Arbitration, Kano Emir Tasks Bussiness Moguls

The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has stressed the need for business Tycoons to uphold the doctrine of arbitration as a means of resolving disputes amicably, rather than engaging in litigation.

The Emir,  represented by Walin Kano, Alhaji Abba Mahe Bashir Wali made the assertion at 2023 NBA-SBL, Northern Zonal Committee, taking place in Kano.

Bayero said arbitration promote peaceful and economic coexistence among bussiness people.

He commended the Association for chosen Kano to conduct the Conference, noting that the SBL conference will further provide enabling environment for doing bussiness without enmity.

Also in his Speech, the Kano State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by Principal Private Secretary (PPS) Mr. Shehu Wada Sagagi said it is important for Young Lawyers to take interest in bussiness aspect of the law to advance their economy.

He equally said Kano State Government is doing its best in the area of judiciary, adding that the Kano State has recently approved the appointment of First Kano female judge, Justice Dije Aboki, for the first time.

Governor Yusuf, similarly urged lawyers to grabbed the opportunity given to them by SBL to enhance their practice.

In his address, the National President of the NBA, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau said the objective of the conference was to enhance the capacity of lawyers in areas of Arbitration, Corporate Governance  and Intellectual Property and  that according to him, is in line with the global best practice of law profession.

Dr. Adeoye Adefulu,  Chairman, NBA-SBL maintained that in fulfilment of the mandate, the NBA-SBL Northern Zonal Committee has put together its maiden Conference in the ancient commercial city of Kano to discuss some of the essential areas of commercial law practice that is required to power the economic growth of the great City of Kano and its environs.

Earlier in a welcoming address, the Chairman SBL Northern Zonal Committee conference, Dr. Fatima Kere-Ahmed said ” We are determine to train Northern lawyers to know about alternative means of litigation. We give lawyers training to expand their practice in aspect of copyright and other businesses.” She stated.

Giving overview of the conference, Dr. Kere-Ahmed explained that Nigerian Bar Association Section on Business Law (NBA-SBL) is one of the specialist sections of the NBA, set up primarily to engender the professional development of Nigerian commercial lawyers, thereby raising the level of business law practice in Nigeria.

She added that the NBA-SBL recognising the seeming disparity between commercial law practice in Lagos the economic hub of the country and other parts of the country, determined under the leadership of its present Council to reach further in-country and bring more practitioners up to speed with contemporary commercial law practice.

In a remark, Mr. Wada Ahmed Wada, Chairman Planning Committee of the SBL conference said this is the first time the conference is taking place in Kano.

Mr. Wada assured that at the end of the conference participants will be knowledgeable in the
area of Arbitration,  Practice of Corporate Governance and Intellectual Property.

Justice Watch News, gathered that during the conference, Three Sessions were held and accordingly moderated ranging from areas of Arbitration, Corporate Governance and Intellectual Property.

They are however as follows:

1.Solving Dispute In a Globalized Word: The Arbitration Alternative. Moderated by Hauwa Kaka Usman.
2. Corporate Governance Excellence: Building Trust and Sustainability. Moderated by Ibrahim Abdullahi CEO, Nasarawa State Investment Development Agency.  and

3.Nurturing Creativity And Innovation In a Time of
Economic Change. Moderated by Saadatu Hamu Managing Partner, Hamu Legal, Abuja.
