Two Young Boys Drown in Jigawa Pond

The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) has said that Two young boys, namely Abubakar Alhaji Ja’a, aged 20, and Abubakar Abdullahi Damina Rigija, aged 25, both of Waza village in Birnin Kudu LGA, drowned at a pond located one kilometer away from the community.

ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud Jigawa State Command Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure in a statement.

He said the hapless incident occurred on Monday, 12th day of August, 2024 at about 1100hrs on their way to visit the market square for their daily business and unfortunately drowned into a pond

He further said the NSCDC Divisional Officer, Birnin Kudu LGA, CSC Muhammad Garba confirmed that they received a distress call from some members of the Tulla community at around 1130hrs and rushed to the scene with the Divisional disaster management officers for a rescue mission, explaining that together with the people of the community, they were able to recover the bodies of the two victims after about 48 minutes of search and rescue mission.

He added that “Immediately the bodies were recovered, they were rushed to the nearest Hospital in Waza village of Birnin Kudu LGA, where they were confirm dead.”

“Investigation later revealed that the victims were drowned after which the pond overfloaded and which eventually led to their death.”

It was also gathered that Abubakar Abdullahi Damina went to the pond to rescue Abubakar Alhaji from drowning which it lead to their death.

The PRO noted that remains of the victims were handed over to their respective family and already buried according to Islamic injunctions.

Meanwhile, he stated that the State Commandant, Muhammad Danjuma commiserated with the families of the deceased and enjoined parents to look after their wards especially at this moment were ponds and rivers are overflooded to avoid recording such terrible incidents in Birnin Kudu LGA and Jigawa State in general.
