Tudun Biri: Group laments 400 deaths to tragedies in nine years

The Volunteers for Democracy and Good Governance, have described the bombing of innocent civilians by the Nigerian Army at Tudun Biri of Igabi local government area of Kaduna state, as a tragedy and calamity that has raised the number of people killed in the last nine years to 400.

The volunteer group of patriots committed to the rule of law, democracy and good governance issued a statement in Kano on Tuesday saying that the number of attacks have now risen to 19 across the North where innocent people have lost their lives.

In a statement signed by the group’s Public Relations Officer, Hon Shehu Isah, also quoted reports by the Amnesty International (AI) and the Human Rights Watch (HRW) that there are always losses of more women and children when such mishaps occur.

“The incident is a national calamity that will take a long time to forget.

“It also brings to fore, the need for a total overhaul of operations of Nigerian Armed Forces, while strongly calling for review of similar occurrences from 2014 to date.

“Reports by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch indicated that there are always more losses of women and children when such mishaps occur.

“It is disheartening to note that these tragedies numbered over 400 deaths in a period of nine years (2014 – 2023) in 19 attacks across the North” the group says.

While extending it’s condolences to the people of Kaduna state, Emir of Zazzau and the victims, the group also recommended full scale investigation as well as compensation of victims accordingly that should include the dead and the injured.

The group also calls for an overhaul of the security architecture to be in line with international best practices.

They further appreciate efforts taken by the federal government while calling for the immediate implementation of promises made.
