Three Girls Drowned in Jigawa

Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC), Jigawa Command, has confirmed the death of Three young girls while bathing inside a pond at Faskarau, Jae Ward of Kaugama LGA of the state.

CSC Adamu Shehu, Command’s Public Relations Officer, made this known in a statement issued, Monday.

He identified the victims as Maryam Salisu, 10-years-old, Bahayura Lawan,10-years-old, and Lawisa Sule, 8-years-old.

“The hapless incident occurred today, Monday, 5th day of September, 2022 at about 1100hrs when the three girls went to a nearby pond about three hundred meters away from the village to wash their clothes.”

“The NSCDC Divisional Officer, Kaugama LGA confirmed that they received a distress call at around 1110hrs and rushed to the scene with the Divisional disaster management officers for a rescue mission. And together with the people of the community,

“They were able to recover the bodies of the three young girls after about 30 minutes of search and rescue mission.”

He pointed out that immediately the bodies were recovered, they were rushed to the General Hospital Kaugama, where they were certified dead.

Acccording the PRO, investigation later revealed that the girls after washing their clothes, decided to take a bath at the pond which eventually led to their death.

He added that it was also gathered that about twenty years ago, similar incident occurred with three girls losing their lives to the pond.

He noted that the remains of the girls were handed over to their respective parents and already buried according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, the State Commandant, Musa Alhaji Mala commiserated with the families of the deceased and enjoined parents to look after their wards especially at this moment were ponds and rivers are flooded.
