Stampede: Committee decentralises Dangotes palliative distribution centres in Jigawa

Alhaji Sunusi Ahmed, the Chairman, Dangote Foundation Coordinator in charge of the North, said the foundation has redesigned its palliative distribution system to avoid over crowding and stampede in ongoing nationwide distribution of 10kg rice to vulnerable Nigerians.

Ahmed made this known while speaking with newsmen after inspecting the exercise in Birnin-Kudu Local Government Areas of JIgawa.

Justice Watch News reports that the foundation has donated 30,000 bags of 10kg rice for distribution to the needy and vulnerable in the state.

It also reports that the rice was being distributed in collaboration with Dutse Central Mosque, under the chairmanship of Dr Abubakar Sani, the Chief Imam the Central Mosque.

He said the gesture is a deliberate effort to ensure safe and hitch-free distribution of the rice by avoid over crowding that may cause stampede by among the collectors.

The coordinator added that the measure was taken in order to protect the health and lives of the needy that would came to collect the food palliative at all the designated centres.

“Our Chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote through Aliko Dangote Foundation, has distributed will distribute 1 million bags of the 10kg rice to the needy across the country. And as I’m speaking with now, the distribution is taking place in most of the states, including Lagos.

“This is one of the efforts by Dangote group of companies to ease the sufferings of Nigerians occasioned by high cost of food items in this holy month of Ramadan,” the coordinator said.

He therefore, appealed to people to be patient and orderly while collecting the rice, noting that proper arregnment has been made to ensure the palliative has reached the targeted people.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the rice distribution committee, Dr Abubakar Sani, lauded Dangote foundation for the gesture, saying that the food assistance came at the right time when people are battling with high cost food items, particularly during Ramadan fasting.

Sani also announced that the foundation has sent additional 10,000 bags of the rice, bringing the total number of the rice given to the state to 40,000 bags.

“We distributed the rice by allocating equal number to each of the 287 political wards and down to poling units to avoid over crowding.

“And with regards to this additional 10,000 bags, special consideration would given to orphanage homes, correctional centers, widows, orphans and people living with disabilities,” Sani assured.
