Jigawa Command of Nigeria Police has said that in last one Month under review, the Command recorded six (6) cases of Boat/ Canoe capsizes, which claimed 22 lives and Injured many.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam gave the update in a statement, Sunday.
DSP Shiisu however, identified the incident according to affected LGA,s as : Miga 2, Gwaram 5 and Guri 5.
others are Ringim 8, Kafin Hausa nil and Auyo 2.
Similarly shedding light to Justice Watch News, DSP Shiisu enjoined residents of the state to desist from overloading while boarding canoe/ boat.
He also called on Publics to always allow security and medical personnel to perform their duty, on death incidences
“Parents are to warns their wards against swimming in rivers/ streams/ ponds to avoid future occurance”
He urged People to avoid night journey.
The PPRO, however stressed the significance of being security wise and report any abnormalities, more especially in the various Internally Displaced Persons Camp across the state.
Similarly in a chat with BBC Hausa Service, monitored by Justice Watch News on Sunday, Alhaji Shehu Sule Udi, Chairman Ringim Local Govt. Council in Jigawa State, confirmed that 8 persons lost their lives and others rescued alive as a result of flood in some of parts of the LGA.
He listed the areas affected as Dabi, Majiyawa, Yandutse, Malamawar Yandutse, Gabarin and some parts of Yakasawa.
“As I’m speaking with you now, Victims have been relocated to Primary School.
“We’re doing our best to provide Mosquito nets, food drugs band other basic needs to the victims,
“We call on State Government, Federal Government and other Philanthropists in the state to come to our aid,” he requested.
How ever in sombre reaction some of the residents in Hadejia LGA while speaking to Justice Watch News pleaded with State Govt. construct floodwall or perimeters to avoid future occurance of the disaster.
Isah Musa is a resident of Hadejia said the level of water is high above the level of the perimeter, calling on Government to construct or enhance the dilapidated perimeter.
Another resident Alhaji Muhammad Sani said the dilapidated perimeter could not prevent the flood”
