Sexual Exploitation: 25-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 2 Years for Attempting to Procure Minors

A Kano State High Court has convicted and sentenced one Umar Muhammad, popularly known as Chakalale, to 2 years imprisonment without the option of a fine for attempting to procure two underage boys (names withheld) for sexual exploitation.

Umar, 25, a resident of Kofar Gabas, Dawakin Kudu LGA in Kano, was jailed by Justice Ibrahim Musa Karaye after pleading guilty to the offence as charged by the  National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) Kano Zonal Command.

According to the Agency’s Counsel, Barrister Nuraddeen Hassan, the two minors were attempted to be procured by Umar from Tamburawa Kofar Gabas in Dawakin Kudu LGA  Kano.

The offence contravened Section 29 and is punishable under Section 16 of the Trafficking in Persons Act 2015.

In an interview with Justice Watch News, the Zonal Commander of the Agency, Barrister Babale Shuaibu Abdullahi, described the judgement as a landmark decision and urged parents to be vigilant about their children’s whereabouts.
