Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robbers, Recover Stolen Items in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has successfully apprehended a group of suspected armed robbers allegedly involved in a violent home invasion.

DSP Shiisu Lawan Adam Command’s Spokesperson made this known in a statement issued, Wednesday.

He explained that the incident occurred in the early hours of July 19, 2023, when five individuals armed with weapons stormed the residence of someone (name withheld) at G9 quarters, Dutse LGA.

He said according to reports, the perpetrators brutally assaulted the victim before making off with several valuable possessions, including a black Honda Accord 2011 model, two plasma televisions, an HP Laptop computer, and a Redmi Note 11pro phone.

The PPRO further said the distressed homeowner was immediately rushed to General Hospital Dutse for medical treatment, while the case was subsequently transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Dutse for discreet investigation.

He added that efforts by the investigative team led to a breakthrough on October 18, 2023, when a tip-off led to the arrest of three suspects: Umar Abubakar, aged 28, from Bompai Miller Road in Kano state; Yakubu Mohammed, aged 24; and Zakariyya Dahiru, aged 28, both from Yalleman town, Kaugama LGA.

DSP Shiisu explained that during questioning, the detainees confessed to forcibly entering the victim’s residence, assaulting him, and stealing his motor vehicle and other belongings.

He continued “They also named Umar Abubakar alias Messi and Hassan Kura as their accomplices who are still at large.”

He noted that further investigations revealed that the stolen motor vehicle had been sold to Umar Abubakar, currently evading capture, for a sum of ₦500,000.

Additionally, he maintained that the stolen items were traced to Adamu Mohammed, aged 36, from Goron Dutse in Kano state, and Lawan Salisu, aged 48, from U/Uku in Kano state, noting that both individuals have been arrested.

“The police command remains committed to apprehending the remaining suspects who are still at large.”

“The arrested individuals will undergo a discreet investigation at SCID Dutse before being arraigned in court to face appropriate legal action.”

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Jigawa State Command, urged the public to continue providing any relevant information that may aid ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the state.
