Police arrest man for impersonating Jigawa speaker

The Police in Jigawa has arrested a 39-year-man for allegedly impersonating the Speaker of Jigawa House of Assembly, Alhaji Aliyu Haruna.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Ahmadu Abdullahi, told newsmen that the suspect, identified as Abduljabar Inuwa and resident of Zai area, was arrested on Monday in Dutse Local Government Area (LGA).

He explained that the suspect was arrested by police personnel attached to Haruna in possession of forged complementary cards, bearing the name and Imsignia of the lawmaker.

The commissioner added that when search was conducted at the residence of the suspect, 20 additional of the forged complementary cards were recovered.

According to him, when interrogated, the suspect confessed to the crime, and had been approaching various council chairmen in the state seeking for one favour or the other, mostly financial in the name of the speaker.

“The suspect mentioned Ado Zakari as the artist that always assists him in printing the complementary cards. The said Zakari was also arrested,” the commissioner said.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi further said the police  also arrested a 25-year-old resident of Kanti quarters of Kazaure LGA, identified as Abdullahi Suleiman, in possession of electric wires, strongly suspected to be vandalised.

“On investigation, one Abdullahi Isa of same address complained that he intercepted the suspect while committing the act, and when he questioned him, the suspect attacked and stabbed him with knife,” Abdullahi said.

The police boss added that the police  also arrested a 25-year-old suspected drug peddler in Babura LGA.

He added that the suspect, identified as Yusif Musa of Kafar Yamma area in Babura town, was arrested on Saturday when the police raided Babura motor park.

According to him, 777 tablets of diazepam and some quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered from the suspect.
