One Voice Development Initiative Hails President Tinubu for Extending Customs Management Tenure

One Voice Development Initiative, a non-governmental organization, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership for extending the tenure of the Nigeria Customs Service Management Team, led by Comptroller-General of Customs BA Adewale Adeniyi.

The Initiative In a statement  signed by its National President Ambassador Abbas Yakasai believes the development will ensure continuity and stability in customs operations, which according to him is vital for Nigeria’s economic growth.

Good Morning Gentlemen and ladies of the press

1. With reference to our called to Mr. President on 3rd October 2024 at Arewa House Kaduna State for tenureship extension to the management of Nigerian customs services, we at One voice development Initiative are elated to express our heartfelt gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his visionary leadership in extending the Nigeria Customs management due to its significant and pivotal roles towards driving the Nation’s economy for growth and development.

This bold step underscores President Tinubu’s
commitment to fostering a conducive environment for business and investment, aligning with his administration’s strategic efforts to revamp Nigeria’s economy.

The extension of Nigeria Customs management is a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to creating an enabling environment which attracts local and foreign investments.

This decision will undoubtedly propel Nigeria’s economic growth, promote regional
connectivity, and solidify its position as an industrial hub.

2. It’s Time to Hail B.A ADEWALE one more time:

My dear Audience,permits me to remind you on my previous press interaction in October 3, 2024 which dwell and speak much about achievements of the NCS management under the leadership of CGC BA ADEWALE ADENIYI. For your information now, that remarkable efforts which I mentioned has been doubled up and believe would soon manifest and give a significant impact on Nigeria’s economy.

3. On the Economy:

The NCS has achieved remarkable success in the first half of 2024 with a half year revenue target of 2.54 trillion, the Service has collected 2.74 trillion surpassing the target by 8% and marking a 127% increase over the previous years revenue. 1.395 trillion was collected for the
second quarter, exceeding the Quarterly target by 10% & representing a 131%increase over 2023.

The NCS Management have implemented several strategies to enhance revenue collection
including real time system auditing, post clearance audits, verification of documents for
the PAAR ensuring compliance with impotart guidelines and implementation of a pilot test for the authorized economic operators scheme.

4. Effective Border Control: The service intensified its anti smuggling in the first of 2024 resulting in notable

achievements from January to June 2024.

The NCS made 2,442 seizures with a DPV Duty
paid value worth 25,520,652.948 which is higher than the DPV of seizures in the first half
of 2023.  And the top items seized include narcotics, arms and ammunition, vehicle and
foreign rice.

In another hand, the NCS airwing was enhanced by acquiring a new special Jet for air patrol to the extent to unveils the first female pilot in the service, all this is about commitments at detecting smuggling routes and strengthen the border patrol capabilities, which is not only mean to intercept illegal activities but also to provide quick extraction
support and significant tactical advantage to the Nigeria Customs service for border control
and sending a clear signal to economic saboteur that the service is better equipped than ever
to combat smuggling activities.

5. Community & Stakeholders Engagements :

The NCS has implemented several key initiatives to simplify and expedite customs procedures,capacity building programs for officers and public private partnership to enhance Customs clearance efficiency. These efforts are crucial for enhancing Nigeria’s trade competitiveness and supporting economic growth.

In recent time , the NCS have established a roundtable discussion with key stakeholders
which provided an opportunity for the citizen and stakeholders to discuss the NCS critical
issues and propose actionable solutions.

One primary reason for such a conference is to
ensure the NCS is not only reactive to changes in global trade but also proactive in setting the
agenda. Also allows the service to align operational goals with national and international
trade policies, helping it remain relevant in a rapidly changing environment.

6. Commitments to Staff Welfare:

In a robust strategic move and high concerns on staff welfare , the CG, Adewale Adeniyi, had paved way to promoted about 1,419 junior officers across various ranks and 4,291 Senior Officers.

Whereby, Among the beneficiaries are DCG, ACGs, DC, CC, AC, CSC, SC, DSC, ASC I, ASCII & IC . This gesture has shown Professionalism and strategic planning. hence, it’s a move to safe guard Operational continuity and preserve the wealth of institutional knowledge amid the retirement of numerous senior officers, also a drive mechanism to improve the Customs service delivery and streamlined its administrative process in line with the global best practices.

7. Conclusion:

We at One Voice Development Initiative, we believe that this milestone Achievements will
have a positive impact on Nigeria’s economic landscape. We pledge our support for President Tinubu’s administration and look forward to collaborating with his government to
drive sustainable development. And for the Nigeria Customs Service Management team under the amiable leader CG Mr BA ADEWALE ADENIYI i said, Keep the flag playing its Almighty God that made it for you one more time, Kindly Make Nigerians be proud of you.
