NUJ Jigawa Inaugurates Technical Committee For The Establishment Of Owned Online Media

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Jigawa State Council has inaugurated a four-member technical committee tasked with establishing the Council’s own online media platform.

This was contained in a statement issued by Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo Acting Secretary NUJ Jigawa State Council

Inaugurating the Committee, the State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Ismaila Ibrahim Dutse, emphasized the urgent need for a strong online presence to facilitate effective information dissemination, community engagement, and the maintenance of high journalistic standards among members of the Union.

He stated that the initiative aims to enhance the dissemination of credible information from verified sources via modern digital platforms, aligning with global best practices in journalism.

Comrade Dutse highlighted that the technical committee has been assembled to provide the Union with the necessary expertise and guidance to realize the Council’s vision for its own online media outlet.

“We will develop a robust content strategy that upholds high journalistic standards, ensuring that our output is accurate, relevant, and objective,” he explained.

He underscored the importance of training and capacity building as fundamental components of their mission. “Recognizing that the digital landscape is constantly evolving, it is our duty to equip our members with essential skills in digital journalism and online media ethics. This will enable us to remain at the forefront of our profession and uphold our commitment to integrity and professionalism.”

Comrade Dutse reaffirmed the Jigawa NUJ’s dedication to safeguarding the rights of all working journalists in the state.

He stated that the Council is committed to promoting freedom of speech and expression, while also emphasizing that it will not tolerate actions that threaten the peace and stability of Jigawa State. “As a Union built on integrity, we must continue to uphold these values in all our endeavors,” he asserted.

“I urge all working journalists in Jigawa State to uphold the ethics of investigative journalism by verifying facts from all sides before going to press,” the Chairman added.

Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Umar Ibrahim, who is also the Executive Director of Business Development Service at Jigawa State Galaxy ITT, expressed gratitude on behalf of the committee members for the opportunity to serve.

He assured the Union that the committee would work diligently to achieve its objectives.

Members of the Committee are:

1. Umar Ibrahim, Executive Director of Business Development Service, Galaxy ITT – Chairman

2. Ziyad Makama – Member

3. Sani Labaran Salisu – Member

4. Nura Sani Bello – Secretary

The committee has three weeks to present its report.
