NSCDC Officer Killed by Mob in Jigawa While Enforcing Law

The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has confirmed the tragic death of one of its officers, Superintendent of the Corps Bashir Adamu Jibril, who was serving under the Intelligence and Investigation Department.

ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud Public Relations Officer NSCDC Jigawa State Command made this known in a statement issued, Tuesday.

He said on Monday, 4th August 2025, at approximately 1300hrs, SC Bashir Adamu Jibril was performing his lawful duty around Shuwarin Market in Kiyawa Local Government Area when he was brutally attacked by a mob.

He said the attack followed the successful arrest of a criminal suspect by the officer, which led to agitation among a group of hoodlums who resorted to lawlessness in a bid to prevent justice.

He also said the mob, armed with cutlasses, sticks, and other locally fabricated dangerous weapons, descended on the officer, inflicting grievous bodily harm that led to his instant and untimely death.

He was quickly transported to the Dutse General Hospital, where he was formally confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.

“Following swift response and intelligence gathering, the prime suspect and masterminder of the mob attack has since been apprehended by the Corps. Investigations are ongoing, and all hands are on deck to ensure the arrest of the remaining perpetrators, who are currently at large.

“The Command deeply regrets this painful loss and strongly condemns the senseless act of jungle justice meted out on a uniformed officer in the line of duty.

“The Command assures the general public and the family of the deceased that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion, and no effort will be spared in ensuring that all those involved in this heinous crime are brought to book.” ASC Badruddeen added.

He pointed out that the late SC Bashir Adamu Jibril was known for his bravery, discipline, and unwavering commitment to national service.

His loss is not only a blow to the Corps but also to the peace and security of Jigawa State.
