The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA) has called on Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prevail on his party’s national leadership to ensure fairness and discourage reckless manipulation in election cases of Kano, Zamfara, and Plateau States.

In an open letter signed by Dr. Ali Idris, President, Dr Garba Abdulaziz Secretary General and Comrade Adikwu Omale Joshua National Publicity Secretary, the NYA warned that any attempt to snatch the governorship seats in the affected states through manipulation could destabilize the Nigerian democratic system and potentially lead to political crises in northern Nigeria.

The statement said the group cautioned against the economic, political, and security consequences that such actions may entail for the affected states.

“The letter suggests that these alleged plots are part of a strategic plan in favor of President Tinubu’s future political aspirations in the 2027 elections, considering the cumulative opposition party votes from these states.

“The NYA urges the president not to let politically desperate individuals destroy his integrity and reputation in northern Nigeria and the international community.”

The letter further reminded President Tinubu of the challenges facing the country, such as the recently removed fuel subsidy, which has resulted in significant economic hardship for Nigerians.

“The NYA highlights the overwhelming security challenges and growing levels of poverty experienced since the current administration took office.”

” It emphasizes the need for the government’s focus to be redirected towards addressing these pressing issues rather than engaging in potentially divisive political conflicts.”

The NYA similarly called on President Tinubu to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians and work towards alleviating the sufferings of citizens living in multi-dimensional poverty. It appeals for the protection of democratic values, emphasizing the importance of allowing the Nigerian citizens the right to choose their leaders in a fair and democratic manner.

“The youth assembly warns against the increasing disenchantment among young Nigerians, who are vulnerable to recruitment by bandits and insurgents due to their economic and social circumstances. It cautions against the conspiracy to snatch opposition-governed states as a dangerous venture that could negatively impact democracy and the unity of the country.
